Hunters Hill: A Unique Heritage Municipality Est. 1861

UNDER THREAT.

“Grass roots democracy could be lost..” Campaign launch Mayoral Speech

Grass roots democracy has been fundamental to the Hunters Hill community since it’s foundation in 1861, but could be lost as the NSW State Government is proposing to force Sydney’s existing councils into 18 Mega Councils of over 250,000 people each.

Hunters HIll, one of Sydney’s smallest and oldest Municipalities, is financially fit and sustainable, and a “jewel in the crown” of Sydney, due to its extremely high heritage value. This is in no small part due to the actions of our local photo 2community who, with our locally elected representatives, have fought to preserve it time and time again.

The proposed mega-council mergers, if implemented, will annihilate our local voice and representation. Decisions about developments in Hunters Hill will bephoto 1 made by “party politicians” far away with no connection with, or to, the local area, and who are unlikely to share the heritage and conservation values that have come to define our local area. This would have devastating impacts for our Municipality and our local community.

Save Hunters Hill Municipality Coalition (SHHMC) was established to prevent any amalgamation of Hunters Hill with surrounding councils, and ensure the preservation of local democracy and the municipality’s significant community and heritage values.

Raise Our Colours Campaign

We have launched a community action campaign to 12182322_989342191103854_2068960895_n#SaveHuntersHill from the threat of forced amalgamation. Ribbons of the Municipal Colours are now flying through-out the Municipality in support of maintaining local independence.

We encourage everyone to please join our campaign to fight for the preservation of local grass-roots democracy and for the preservation of Hunters Hill .
